Kawasaki Z1000 Battery

2003–2016. Kawasaki changed the Z1000's battery once across the run. Pick your year and we show the case that year takes and the lithium that fits it. Change any box in the strip to look up another bike.

The Kawasaki Z1000 takes the AT12BS case. The Antigravity AT12BS RE-START is a drop-in for that case: 360 cranking amps, 3 lb, a built-in jump start that saves enough charge to get you home. Antigravity's list names the AT12BS for this model; Yuasa's guide names the YT12A-BS case for some trims. Go by the code on your old battery.

Why the year matters on this one

The Z1000 is a motorcycle where the battery changed mid-run: 2003 to 2013 takes the YTX9-BS and 2014 to 2016 the AT12BS. The plate above names the source for each year, and the table shows every run we have on file, so match the year to the case before you order.

For 2014 to 2016 that means the Antigravity AT12BS RE-START: 360 cranking amps, 3 pounds, the same case in lithium. Its RE-START function puts the battery to sleep before a parasitic draw can drain it, then wakes it with one press for a jump start. Antigravity's list names the AT12BS for this model; Yuasa's guide names the YT12A-BS case for some trims. Go by the code on your old battery. Charge it with a lithium-compatible charger or maintainer for the off-season and it outlasts the lead-acid battery it replaces by years.

What size battery does a Kawasaki Z1000 take?+
It depends on the year: 2003 to 2013 takes the YTX9-BS and 2014 to 2016 the AT12BS. For 2014 to 2016 that is the Antigravity AT12BS RE-START, the lithium drop-in for the AT12BS case. The table above shows every run we have on file, so match your year to the case before you order.
Will a lithium battery work in a Z1000 without changes?+
Yes, on a bike with a healthy charging system: the lithium battery uses the same case, the same posts and the same cables, and it drops in where the lead-acid battery sat. Bikes older than about 2000 should have their voltage regulator and rectifier checked first, since a failing one overcharges any battery and lithium tolerates it less. Fill any gap in the tray with the foam spacers most lithium motorcycle batteries include.
Do I need a different charger for a lithium motorcycle battery?+
Use a charger or maintainer with a lithium (LiFePO4) mode. A lead-acid trickle charger can push the wrong voltage profile, and a desulfation mode can damage a lithium pack. A lithium-profile maintainer over the off-season keeps it topped without harm, and the battery loses only a few percent of charge a month sitting on its own.
