Motorcycle Battery Charger

The fastest way to ruin a lithium motorcycle battery is the old lead-acid charger hanging on the garage wall. This shelf is the cure: 12V motorcycle battery chargers with a true lithium profile, what most riders call a battery tender, that charge fully, shut off cleanly and never pulse a desulfation mode through cells that cannot take it.

Lead-Acid Chargers and Lithium Batteries Do Not Mix

Lead-acid chargers and maintainers are built around behaviors lithium does not have: float stages that never end, equalization pulses, desulfation modes. Run them on a LiFePO4 starter battery and the best case is a chronic undercharge; the worst case trips the battery’s protection over and over until something gives. A lithium-profile charger does the opposite: full charge, clean cutoff, no drama. And because LiFePO4 self-discharges only a few percent a month, most riders need the charger less than they think: a bike parked for eight weeks starts fine on its own. For the full off-season, bring the battery to full before the bike goes away. Pair it with a lithium motorcycle battery, or call us with your battery brand and we will match the right unit.

Motorcycle Battery Charger FAQ

Can I use my old lead-acid trickle charger on a lithium motorcycle battery?+

No. Trickle charging and desulfation pulses are lead-acid medicine, and on a lithium battery they chronically undercharge or repeatedly trip the protection circuit. Use a charger with an explicit lithium or LiFePO4 mode, full stop.

Does a lithium motorcycle battery even need a maintainer?+

Far less than lead-acid does. LiFePO4 loses a few percent of charge a month, so weeks of sitting are a non-event. Charge it to full before a long off-season, and keep a lithium-profile charger handy for bikes with an alarm or tracker drawing around the clock.

What amperage charger should I buy for a motorcycle battery?+

Small batteries want small chargers. The Dakota 12V 3A is built for 12V lithium batteries from 7Ah to 25Ah and fills a flat 25Ah battery in about 8 hours. The 10-amp-plus car charger on your shelf is the wrong tool for this job.
