RV Battery Charger

Your RV’s converter keeps the house battery topped up on shore power, but many were built for lead-acid and hold a voltage that stops short of full on lithium. An RV battery charger with a true LiFePO4 profile finishes the job: a portable 12V charger for the driveway before a trip, or a waterproof onboard unit you mount once.

Converter, Portable Charger or Onboard Charger

Every camper, travel trailer and motorhome charges its house battery two ways: from the alternator on the road and from the converter on shore power. A lithium house battery wants about 14.4 volts to fill. Many converters, especially older ones, were set for lead-acid and float lower, so the battery lives at part charge. A camper battery charger with a LiFePO4 profile tops it off properly.

Portable or onboard comes down to how you camp. The Dakota 12V 10A clips on in the driveway and fills a flat 100Ah house battery in about 10 hours. The 12V 20A onboard mounts in the bay, runs on shore power and does the same battery in about 5, sealed to IP67. Big banks, up to 320Ah, want the onboard. Shop the house battery itself on our lithium RV battery shelf.

RV Battery Charger FAQ

Can my RV converter charge a lithium battery?+

Often, but not always to full. Many converters were built for lead-acid and hold a lower voltage than a LiFePO4 battery wants. A lithium charger, or a converter with a lithium setting, fills it completely.

What size charger does an RV lithium battery need?+

Hours to full from empty is roughly amp hours divided by amps. A 100Ah house battery takes about 10 hours on a 10-amp charger and about 5 on a 20-amp. For banks from 60Ah to 320Ah, the Dakota 12V 20A onboard is the fit.

Is a camper battery charger different from an RV battery charger?+

No. It is the same job: charging the 12V house battery in a camper, travel trailer, fifth wheel or motorhome. Match the voltage and the battery size, and any charger on this page does it.
