36 Volt Trolling Motor Battery
A 36 volt trolling motor battery feeds the 100 pound plus motors on tournament bass boats. In lithium it comes two ways: one 36V battery with nothing to wire, or a set of three matched 12V batteries that you connect in series. Everything below is a complete 36V bank, holds a big motor at full thrust all day, and takes well over 100 pounds off the bow compared with the lead-acid trio it replaces.

Three Batteries, One 36V Bank
The 100 to 112 pound thrust motors draw 50 to 60 amps wide open and 20 to 25 at a working cruise, so a 36V 100Ah lithium bank, three 100Ah packs in series, carries a tournament day with capacity to spare. Lead-acid needs three Group 31 batteries weighing close to 200 pounds to do the same job worse, since only about half of each is usable and the voltage sags all afternoon, which the motor pays back as lost thrust. Lithium holds voltage flat until it is nearly empty, so the last cast pulls as hard as the first.
Wiring a 36V Series Bank
Two jumpers: positive of battery one to negative of battery two, positive of battery two to negative of battery three. The motor takes the open positive on battery three and the open negative on battery one, with the breaker in the positive lead. Buy three identical packs together, charge them on a three-bank lithium onboard charger, and the bank behaves like one big battery for thousands of cycles. 36 Volt Trolling Motor Battery FAQ
What batteries do I need for a 36 volt trolling motor?+-
Either one 36V lithium battery, or three matched 12V lithium batteries wired in series, same brand and same capacity. Three 100Ah batteries make a 36V 100Ah bank, the standard setup for 100 pound plus thrust motors on tournament boats; a single 36V battery does the same job with nothing to wire.
How much weight does a lithium 36V bank save?+-
Three Group 31 lead-acid batteries weigh about 190 to 200 pounds. Three 100Ah lithium packs weigh about 75 to 85 pounds, so the bow sheds well over 100 pounds, which shows up in hole shot, top speed and fuel burn.
Can I charge a 36V lithium bank with my old onboard charger?+-
Only if it has a lithium profile on every bank. Lead-acid chargers stop short and never fill LiFePO4 completely, which costs you runtime every day. A three-bank lithium onboard charger fills each pack separately and keeps the bank balanced.
