The BMW F650GS takes the YTX14-BS case. The Antigravity ATX12 RE-START is a drop-in for that case: 360 cranking amps, 3 lb, a built-in jump start that saves enough charge to get you home. Some trims of this model take a different battery; check the code on yours.

Why the year matters on this one

The F650GS is a motorcycle where the battery changed mid-run: 1999 to 2000 takes the YB12AL-A, 2001 to 2007 the YTX14AHL-BS, 2008 the ATX12, 2009 to 2012 the YTX14-BS and 2013 the YB12AL-A. The plate above names the source for each year, and the table shows every run we have on file, so match the year to the case before you order.

For 2009 to 2012 that means the Antigravity ATX12 RE-START: 360 cranking amps, 3 pounds, the same case in lithium. Its RE-START function puts the battery to sleep before a parasitic draw can drain it, then wakes it with one press for a jump start. Some trims of this model take a different battery; check the code on yours. Charge it with a lithium-compatible charger or maintainer for the off-season and it outlasts the lead-acid battery it replaces by years.

What size battery does a BMW F650GS take?+
It depends on the year: 1999 to 2000 takes the YB12AL-A, 2001 to 2007 the YTX14AHL-BS, 2008 the ATX12, 2009 to 2012 the YTX14-BS and 2013 the YB12AL-A. For 2009 to 2012 that is the Antigravity ATX12 RE-START, the lithium drop-in for the YTX14-BS case. The table above shows every run we have on file, so match your year to the case before you order.
Will a lithium battery work in an F650GS without changes?+
Yes, on a bike with a healthy charging system: the lithium battery uses the same case, the same posts and the same cables, and it drops in where the lead-acid battery sat. Bikes older than about 2000 should have their voltage regulator and rectifier checked first, since a failing one overcharges any battery and lithium tolerates it less. Fill any gap in the tray with the foam spacers most lithium motorcycle batteries include.
Do I need a different charger for a lithium motorcycle battery?+
Use a charger or maintainer with a lithium (LiFePO4) mode. A lead-acid trickle charger can push the wrong voltage profile, and a desulfation mode can damage a lithium pack. A lithium-profile maintainer over the off-season keeps it topped without harm, and the battery loses only a few percent of charge a month sitting on its own.
