Ionic S8: A Lithium Group U1 for the 2015 to 2021 Cub Cadet XT1, XT2 and Ultima

Cub Cadet's XT1 and XT2 Enduro tractors built from 2015 to 2021, and the Ultima zero turns built through 2021, start on a full-size Group U1 battery: part 925-1707D, or 725P17130 on the 2021 XT2 Kawasaki models, the same U1 size. From 2022 Cub Cadet moved these mowers to the much smaller 725P17335 in a different tray, so the battery your mower takes depends on its year. The Ionic S8 is a Group U1 in lithium: 7.7" x 5.1" x 6.1", 4.4 lbs, and 720 peak cranking amps (400 CCA) for the starter.

Bluetooth is built in, so the Ionic app shows the state of charge before you pull the mower out in spring, and Emergency Start holds back a reserve you can release from the button or the app if the battery runs down. LiFePO4 self-discharges so slowly that it sits out the winter and still starts the mower.

Which battery is yours? Read the part number on the old battery. 925-1707D or 725P17130 means this one. 725P17335 means your mower was built in 2022 or later and takes the compact battery: see our Ionic S4 for the XT1, XT2 and Ultima (Fits 2022+). A 2021 Ultima ZT2 or a 2022 ZTX came with either battery, so the label decides. The S8 stands about an inch lower than a lead-acid U1, so if your hold-down clamps from above, set a firm spacer under the battery.

Your mower's charging system keeps it topped up as you mow. For storage, any 12V charger with a lithium (LiFePO4) mode works; a lead-acid tender with a desulfation setting is hard on lithium cells, so retire the old one.
