The Yamaha Zuma 50 takes the YTX5L-BS case. The Antigravity ATZ-7 RE-START is a drop-in for that case: 150 cranking amps, 1.3 lb, a built-in jump start that saves enough charge to get you home.

Why the year matters on this one

The Zuma 50 is a motorcycle where the battery changed mid-run: 1990 takes the YB4L-B and 2002 to 2013 the YTX5L-BS. The plate above names the source for each year, and the table shows every run we have on file, so match the year to the case before you order.

For 2002 to 2013 that means the Antigravity ATZ-7 RE-START: 150 cranking amps, 1.3 pounds, the same case in lithium. Its RE-START function puts the battery to sleep before a parasitic draw can drain it, then wakes it with one press for a jump start. Charge it with a lithium-compatible charger or maintainer for the off-season and it outlasts the lead-acid battery it replaces by years.

What size battery does a Yamaha Zuma 50 take?+
It depends on the year: 1990 takes the YB4L-B and 2002 to 2013 the YTX5L-BS. For 2002 to 2013 that is the Antigravity ATZ-7 RE-START, the lithium drop-in for the YTX5L-BS case. The table above shows every run we have on file, so match your year to the case before you order.
Will a lithium battery work in a Zuma 50 without changes?+
Yes, on a bike with a healthy charging system: the lithium battery uses the same case, the same posts and the same cables, and it drops in where the lead-acid battery sat. Bikes older than about 2000 should have their voltage regulator and rectifier checked first, since a failing one overcharges any battery and lithium tolerates it less. Fill any gap in the tray with the foam spacers most lithium motorcycle batteries include.
Do I need a different charger for a lithium motorcycle battery?+
Use a charger or maintainer with a lithium (LiFePO4) mode. A lead-acid trickle charger can push the wrong voltage profile, and a desulfation mode can damage a lithium pack. A lithium-profile maintainer over the off-season keeps it topped without harm, and the battery loses only a few percent of charge a month sitting on its own.
