The Polaris Sportsman 500 takes the YTX14AH-BS case. The Antigravity ATX12-AH RE-START is a drop-in for that case: 360 cranking amps, 3 lb, a built-in jump start that saves enough charge to get you home. Some trims of this model take a different battery; check the code on yours.

Why the year matters on this one

The Sportsman 500 is an ATV where the battery changed mid-run: 1996 to 2005 takes the YTX14AH-BS, 2006 the ATX30, 2007 to 2010 the ATX20 and 2011 to 2013 the YTX14AH-BS. The plate above names the source for each year, and the table shows every run we have on file, so match the year to the case before you order.

For 2011 to 2013 that means the Antigravity ATX12-AH RE-START: 360 cranking amps, 3 pounds, the same case in lithium. Its RE-START function puts the battery to sleep before a parasitic draw can drain it, then wakes it with one press for a jump start. Some trims of this model take a different battery; check the code on yours. Charge it with a lithium-compatible charger or maintainer for the off-season and it outlasts the lead-acid battery it replaces by years.

What size battery does a Polaris Sportsman 500 take?+
It depends on the year: 1996 to 2005 takes the YTX14AH-BS, 2006 the ATX30, 2007 to 2010 the ATX20 and 2011 to 2013 the YTX14AH-BS. For 2011 to 2013 that is the Antigravity ATX12-AH RE-START, the lithium drop-in for the YTX14AH-BS case. The table above shows every run we have on file, so match your year to the case before you order.
Will a lithium battery work in a Sportsman 500 without changes?+
Yes, on a machine with a healthy charging system: the lithium battery uses the same case, the same posts and the same cables, and it drops in where the lead-acid battery sat. Check that the stator and regulator hold a steady charge, fill any gap in the tray with the foam spacers most lithium ATV batteries include, and match the terminal layout of the battery you are replacing.
Do I need a different charger for a lithium ATV battery?+
Use a charger or maintainer with a lithium (LiFePO4) mode. A lead-acid trickle charger can push the wrong voltage profile, and a desulfation mode can damage a lithium pack. A lithium-profile maintainer over the off-season keeps it topped without harm, and the battery loses only a few percent of charge a month sitting on its own.
